Training instead of demonstrating

I often get the question during a training session, "can you show me.".

I often see the following happen.
People who can perfectly imitate what they have been taught...., but get stuck as soon as the situation is just a little different.

And that is exactly why I believe so strongly in real training.

You can show someone everything. In detail. Just like a navigation system, after you enter your destination, it takes you step by step to your destination. Mist you stick to the prescribed route.

But fair?
Then you reached the destination but you didn't learn the way. Next time, you again depend on your navigation system to arrive properly.

Learning and development

For me, learning works differently.

I think of good training as an itinerary on a piece of paper. On it are the most important points:

That route gives direction but leaves room.
Space for self-discovery.
Space to think about choices.
Space to learn the way.

A moment that for me sums up everything

At the start of a new training we did a round of introductions. One of the participants said very openly:

“I've had this kind of training so many times.
I don't actually understand why I'm here.”

I sincerely thanked her for her honesty. And I invited her to take the training from her expertise.

“If you have knowledge or experience that is valuable to the group,
share those above all.”

Not defensive. Not convincing. But with space and confidence.

Later that morning, a question came from the group. A participant kept running into the same situation when interacting with another person and was visibly frustrated.
No matter what he tried, it didn't work.

I deliberately put the question to the participant who had previously indicated he already knew everything.

The solution she offered was logical ..., but not helpful to the questioner.
“I already tried that,” he said.” he indicated. “And it has no effect.”

And that's exactly where the learning point arose.

Learning to choose instead of repeating

I used this moment to explain Stephen Covey's Circle of Influence and Engagement. Not to transmit theory, but to open a different perspective.

I showed that you do not increase your influence on another person by continuing to do what you always did, but by consciously choosing how you enter the contact.

If option one doesn't work, then it requires a different choice. A different approach.

For several participants, including those who already knew everything, this was a new insight. We discussed examples. We explored alternatives. And then we put the brought in case back to the group with one question:

What other choice can you make?

The effect

Some time later I received a call. By the participant who had said at the start that she already knew everything.

She told me that after the training she made a conscious decision to actively apply what she had learned. That she stepped differently in contact with others and approached difficult situations from a new perspective. She experienced the effect and had increased her influence. I was thrilled to hear that it had brought her a lot in the meantime.

That, to me, is what training is about.

Not knowing about it,
but about choosing.
Not about sending,
but about discovery.

The trainer as backup, not helmsman

This is how I work.

You drive yourself, I watch.
I ask questions, and you make choices.

And when the route feels familiar and you can travel it naturally, yourself go on your way. And after some time, this question follows:

What is the next path we can take?

Because when routes are familiar you don't learn anything new. In contrast, when you explore new routes you gain new experience and knowledge.

My approach

At the SalesCenter is not about tricks or standard solutions.
Bottom Line:

In this way, you avoid snapshot and lay the pathway for permanent impact.

Why people choose me:

Leadership and Collaboration

Receive new insights through the valuable input evening at Rock Base

Leadership and collaboration are two elements that are strongly linked. Rock Base, the collaborative label of Peter de Wit and Anthon Geersing, is proud to announce their upcoming interactive evening on this theme. Dedicated to strengthening personal leadership and effective collaboration, this evening offers a unique opportunity to learn from the combined expertise of these two visionaries.

After the first official announcement three weeks ago, in which Peter and Anthon announced "we are going to do something new!", now comes the unveiling of their mission: bringing together the worlds of the Marine Corps and business. By combining the powerful lessons from both fields, they are creating a solid foundation for personal and professional growth.

Expertise

Peter de Wit has an impressive background in the Marine Corps. He will share about his experiences in Afghanistan and Somalia. In doing so, he will provide insights valuable for everyday life and the workplace. Anthon Geersing had a career in sales and management within top 10 automotive organizations. Through his expertise as a trainer and coach at The SalesCentrum, he brings practical and theoretical knowledge. The focus is on the areas of sales, communication and leadership. Together, they give the evening's participants essential input that gives direction to life!

Peter de Wit, Anthon Geersing, Leadership and collaboration

You can be there!

On Thursday evening, January 30, attendees will be taken through an interactive evening at the Eemlandhoeve in Bunschoten Spakenburg. During this evening everyone will receive valuable input that is immediately applicable to grow in leadership and cooperation. The evening promises to be an inspiring and educational experience in which stories will be shared. In addition, one will receive practical tools and insights to make a difference.

Don't miss this unique opportunity to grow personally and learn from the best in their field.

Save the Date

Save the date because on Thursday evening, January 30, we are going to inspire you.

Us, Peter de Wit and Anthon Geersing, are going to bring together 2 worlds. The Marine Corps and the business community. Peter served in the Corps for many years and gained a lot of experience. From training, missions to training recruits. The lessons learned from that are also valuable in business. That's why Anthon makes the connection to your everyday practice on this evening. You don't want to miss this because save the date!

On Jan. 30, you will gain valuable input in the areas of leadership and collaboration. What is your role in the whole and how can you increase your influence in your environment? What is the effect of acting under great pressure? These are some of the questions that will be addressed.

So central is collaboration and leadership. Those two elements are clearly linked. Without good leadership, the team will not experience a need to work together. The role of the leader, in addition to serving as an example, is to inspire the team. Furthermore, within a team one will have to have an eye for the qualities present and use them appropriately. Feedback and good communication are key!

Why save the date? You'll be inspired by true stories. At the same time, you'll get valuable practical input that you can apply immediately. And you will be directly challenged on January 30.

Ticket sales start in January. If you have questions for Peter or Anthon before then send a message via the contact form!

Training C-Sales Certified

Last week, Anthon Geersing worked with Paul van Ark may provide the training for Mercedes-Benz C-Sales Certified.

Within Mercedes-Benz, salespeople basically follow the C-Sales program. In this they are taught brand specific issues in combination with sales skills. Certified, Mercedes-Benz's used car label has specific content and has been added to the C-Sales program through this training.

All sales consultants focusing on the sale of young used Mercedes-Benz passenger cars were briefed on the latest state of affairs regarding the Certified label. The facets of the used car process were compared and discussed between the dealers. Learning from each other what is going well and where there are development opportunities.

Paul van Ark has been associated with Mercedes-Benz for more than 25 years. His specialty is in the field of used cars. Together with his colleagues, they support the Mercedes-Benz dealers on Certified cars, among other things. "It had been our and the Used Commission's desire for years to have specific training around Certified," Paul said.

"It was very nice to experience how openly the dealers shared with each other what is going well and where things can be adjusted. We too received the necessary additions that we can work with."

The training had a very open nature. Using open-ended questions and an extensive Mentimeter questionnaire, participants were challenged to respond. The responses considered not only the existing state of affairs within dealerships but also the extent to which sales advisors have influence over the overall process surrounding the used car.

Certified Partner

The SalesCenter has become a certified partner of Sales Colors.

After several interviews, conducting an assessment and undergoing training, Anthon Geersing was certified. Herbert Jan van der Giessen and Rob van Baarsen, owners and founders of Sales Colors guided all steps.

The choice to become a certified partner was a conscious one. Using an innovative software and app, based on scientific research and practical experience, Sales Colors shows how culture, processes and behavior within your sales organization reinforce each other. This fits perfectly with the philosophy of The SalesCenter to first scan the sales team before developing.

Sales Colors is the ultimate tool for any sales manager who wants to take his or her team to the next level. It gives you insight, feedback and action plans to improve your sales performance at all levels. It also gives the different members a good idea of the sales profiles present in the sales team. This helps to strengthen each other and achieve the commercial goals.

To get a good idea of all the possibilities offered by the program an intensive content training followed. Of course, the operation and content of the app and explained. The content offers possibilities in appropriate training for behavioral development.

After attending the training, Rob presented the certificate to Anthon on behalf of Sales Colors as confirmation of the partnership.

Saturdays interview at Content

Every weekend, Content Amersfoort publishes the Saturday interview with one of its members. This past Saturday, Anthon Geersing of The SalesCenter turn.

You can read the total interview below:

SATURDAY INTERVIEW - ANTHON GEERSING | THE SALES CENTER

Saturday morning: time for a delicious new Saturday Interview! With this time Anthon Geersing of The Sales Center. Besides his professional insights into sales and entrepreneurship, he also takes us into his personal life. From his favorite place in Amersfoort to his dreams for the future. 'The best day is still ahead of me. Or in other words, The best is yet to come!' This life motto reflects not only his outlook on the past and future, but also his ambition to speak in front of a room of more than 1,000 people.

What can we wake you up in the middle of the night for?
'The only reason I wake up and spring into action is if one of my children or my wife has something I can help with. For everything else, I like to be available during the day.'

Did you experience anything special or go anywhere this summer?

'At the end of May we got the key to our house in Hoogland. We moved there with our youngest. The chores and moving were made possible by fantastic friends. My wife was not fully employable due to a medical procedure, then it is great to have such people around you.'

If you could be a character from a television series or movie, who would you choose and why?
'I would pick Jordan Belfort in The Wolf of Wall Street. Amazing how this guy can sell everything without any shyness or shame. But I wouldn't want to rip people off, so I probably won't win an Oscar for best character.'

If you could choose a dream destination for a summer vacation, where would it be and why?
'Santorini in Greece. The pictures online are fantastic. How I would love to spend a week there to enjoy sunrise to sunset and log off completely for a while.'

What is your favorite place in Amersfoort and why?
'I should of course say my new house in Hoogland now, but my heart still draws me to the old town of Amersfoort. The whole atmosphere there appeals to me enormously. From the historic buildings on the Muurhuizen and the Singel, to the shopping streets and the squares full of cozy terraces. It's great to bike that way on a Saturday and have a drink. And on a summer evening? Then I like to stay up for a beer with friends on one of those terraces. So yes, that is something you can wake me up for! Or rather, what I stay awake for!'

Do you have a bucket list? If so, what's at the top?

'At the top of my list is speaking in front of a room of more than 1,000 people to tell them an inspiring story. My bucket list was inspired thanks to a visit to the Hillsong Conference in London. There, an American pastor shared why he had a bucket list and how he accomplished one of his dreams of flying in a jet plane. By the way, that seems great to me too: flying in an F-16 or F-35.'

If you could be the mayor of your city for one day, what changes would you make regarding housing and urban development?
'First of all: what I appreciate about Amersfoort are the gradual neighborhood renewals, where old and new complement each other. If I were mayor for one day, I would make a strong case for filling the empty storefronts in the downtown area. In consultation with property owners, I would seek a permanent solution to ensure that retail spaces do not remain vacant. In this plan, I would also create space to give start-ups a chance to get off the ground. In this way I strive for a vibrant city center with a varied retail offer that is attractive to both residents and local residents of Amersfoort.'

What do you do to relax after a busy week?
'For a few years now, we've had a regular date with friends on Friday nights. It's a cozy way to end the week: we enjoy a nice snack and drink together and watch a good movie or series. We take turns choosing a film or series, which sometimes leads to moments when you look at the screen with crooked toes because it's not your choice at all, but also to surprising discoveries.'

Is there a day in history you would like to relive?
'I prefer to look forward to what lies ahead. You can't change the past, only learn from it. That's why I like to live with the thought and realization that the best day is still ahead of me. The best is yet to come!'

Which entrepreneur would you like to trade places with for a day?
'Richard Branson of Virgin. I love how he has built his company with guts and entrepreneurial spirit.'

Global Training Mallorca

Every other year Mercedes-Benz organizes a major international training event under the name Global Training Experience. This time, Mallorca in Spain was the location for the GTE#23. Anthon Geersing is one of the trainers who, on behalf of the Benelux, was able to welcome the participants to this sunny resort.

Global Training

The training in Mallorca is called the Global Training Experience. One of the largest automotive events in the world where 12,500 participants from more than 60 countries came. Anthon was there together with colleagues from the Benelux and other countries in the world training for Mercedes-Benz. The training focused on the new products and innovative systems that the brand has developed. Besides looking at the technical side of the products, the customer benefits and the translation to customer requirements were explained.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class

For the Global Training Experience, 260 cars were brought to Mallorca, including 28 new E-Class models. This model is not expected in showrooms until September 2023. No sooner had people at Mercedes-Benz shown a new model to so many people so early before its introduction. To make this possible, a lot of safety measures had been taken. For example, no photographs or film material was allowed to be taken of this car. The advantage was that every participant got a complete picture of the car and all its innovations compared to the previous E-Class at an early stage. The new super screen was shown and experienced. Attention was also paid to the Routines, a system that links many combined actions. Think, for example, of opening the driver's window at a fixed GPS point.

Participants

The participants of the Global Training Experience in Mallorca come from different countries around the world. In some countries it was true that the top salespeople and executives go as a delegation. From America and Canade the the trainers came to take the content and knowledge and share it locally with the dealers.

For most European countries, several groups of representatives came. In addition to sales management, dealer management and also representatives of the importer were present. Each group had a maximum of 24 participants who were immersed in the world of Mercedes-Benz in 48 hours.

Corporate clothing

Corporate apparel for The Sales Center!

Last week I worked for corporate apparel for The Sales Center at Ropaflex Nijkerk. With this corporate clothing, the Sales Center can put itself even better on the map and we are also recognizable at external trainings and events. Better recognition also provides the space to engage in conversation with new contacts and thus receive more opportunities for the growth of the Sales Center.

Ropaflex

For some time now I had been trying to find beautiful matching corporate clothing in the right style, color and expression. Through a tip from another entrepreneur in Amersfoort, I came in contact with Ropaflex in Nijkerk. There I was helped by several ladies of the team in picking out the appropriate clothing. Besides the right business as somewhat casual look, it was important to me that the company logos could be included in a clear way. For the latter, I received some design examples from the team at Ropaflex in the mail after which I arrived at my choice with the help of some acquaintances.

In addition to long and short sleeve polos in dark blue, I chose a smooth jacket. This one is in black in color and is waterproof.

I am very happy with the result and look forward to wearing it when visiting existing and new clients and, of course, during the various trainings!
